Hi, I had hypnotherapy to stop smoking and was absolutely exhilirated by the end of one session and didn't smoke, or crave for almost a year (when i hit a huge emotional crisis). Lots of my friends would smoke around me and even if I was drinking there was no desire or need to smoke. Hypnotherapy has so far been the most effective but if you are hard-wired to self-destrict as I seem to be, then it's always going to be a battle. The fact is I would've needed more long-term NLP therapy to address other issues which drive ne to smoke. I have just seen my GP about stopping again and she and the 'Smoking Cessation' rep both recommended Champix but I'm very concerned about the depression side effects as I read that many people had committed suicide on this drug. Has anyone experienced this level of psychosis on the drug?

I am a 34 year old woman from Canada who has smoked since I was 17.It doesn't seem that long to most people I bet but to my bank account in the last 18 years it sure has.I came on here to find some feedback about Champix as I started taking the pill yesterday.I have to admit that the first page of posts were quite terrifying to me but I am realy liking the more positive feeds as this will allow me to not give uip on this drug so quickly.Day 1 of Champix did nothing to me except I felt extremely hungry later on in the evening. My dreams were amazing that night. Not terrifying at all but extremely realistic.Day 2 still no side effects.I'm still smoking of course but hope to quit before day 14.We'll see how it goes..I'll keep posting.

Did you ever think that maybe these negative thoughts or mental conditions are all in your head? We read about so many side affects about the drug champix and this could maybe be influencing the way we feel after we take it. I have been a smoker for 10 years and I am only 26. I am an athlete and I am embarrased I let it get to this. That being said, I do believe that nicotine is a very addictive drug. I have tried to quite via the patch more than 4 times, nicotine mints and cold turkey. When I tried the patch it was too overpowering and made me feel really messed up. The mints were not enough and cold turkey made me sweat in my sleep....eat more and feel depressed. I have been on champix for 8 days now and stopped smoking on day 4 because it just clearly did nothing ( like u all said). The cravings are there and I think will always be there, but when u go to smoke it does nothing!!! ITs gross. I know that Champix can cause depression and suicidal thoughts.....but did you all maybe ever think that maybe you feel depressed because u just gave up one of YOUR BEST FRIENDS!!! I mean we are changing a habit that we have had around for YEARS! Its like loosing something.... THAT IS FUCKING HARD. I believe this can be harder or as just as hard if your an alcoholic, drug addict or have any addictive problem in life. How to get through the next 3 months? I joined YOGA! I think this will help me tap into myself and focus on my inner-self.... that person who I was before I ever started smoking!

Hi all im on day 5, have been a heavy smoker for thirty years and like many of the posts Im wondering when the feeling of not wanting a cigarette will arrive.Im not really smoking any less but I am putting them out sooner.I am finding that it is in the evening when I least feel like a cigarette. So much of my smoking has some form of ritual with it(five minutes at work, the one with a cuppa, the one after housework) that I am sure this is driving me more that the addiction, as I definately dont crave as I did but I still light up!!Having the crazy dreams also, some good some bad, what the hell is happening there!! Its like being a shamen.Im looking to the 13 th day to stop and im sure I will , will get rid of all smoking paraphenalia the night before and have one last ciggie and wake up a non smoker.Very reassuring to read so many similar experiences on here. mark x

I took Champix about 4 months ago to stop my 25 year habit and after 2 weeks I stopped smoking, after another 2 weeks of not smoking I stopped taking Champix and haven't looked back since.

Whilst I was taking it I was experiencing weird dreams (I don't normally remember having dreams) and a feeling of being short of breath quite often, which I later realised was a feeling of anxiety. I figured it was just my body getting used to being without nicotine for any prolonged period of time since I was 13 so I dismissed it, but I am now in a full blown bout of depression for the first time in my life and I can't seem to pull myself out of it. I have that anxious feeling all the time at the moment and can't seem to keep my mind on anything important or enjoy the things I used too. No matter how much I try to convince myself the glass is half full my mind see's it all as half or nearly empty, what's going on?? I'm a rational guy and not normally a depressed person so I'm unsure as to how to deal with it. This is nearly two months after I stopped taking the Champix and something I never thought about until I came across a few posts on the internet from people with similar symptoms. My advice is to be careful, this new wonderdrug can come with some severe and life changing problems, as well as cure you of your need for nicotine.

Congratulations Stuart and everyone else who has provided their story and is encouraging others like myself in their pursuit to quit smoking and strive for a better, healthier life.
I am currently on day 5 of the Champix. I have noticed nausea, sleeping longer but most of all terrible diarrhea.
I am determined to keep going but am finding this quite difficult to live with as when I get up in the morning I am on the "throne" on and off for the next 4 hours or so and don't want to eat or drink anything.
Has anyone else had this side effect? It is making life bit difficult as I am not getting much done! I have even taken to putting a book in the loo as I am in their so much.
I would really appreciate any comments or advice.
Many Thanks and GOOD LUCK to all!

i am on day 28 without a cigarette!!! going back to the docs tonight to get another 2 week pack of these. some days i dont even think about smoking its really weird! some days i am clucking for a fag and just take lots of deep breaths and change what i am doing. if i feel really bad i crack a beer open, but these pills have made me go off the beer a bit (which is saving me a fortune on fags and beer now anyway)!!! i dont feel any different to how i did when i smoked except my cough has gone. as i am writing this it has got me thinking about having a smoke, so im gonna go eat something to take my mind off it!!! i normally budget £300 a month outta my wages to cover ciggarettes, but this month i took the missus out shopping and got us a load of clothes with that money so i knew it wasnt even there as back up incase i gave in to temptation! it was scary knowing i cannot buy any etc but i have honestly pretty much forgotten about smoking :) see how it goes once the pills run out eh????

I haven't smoked for 10 days and this is my third week on champix . I have smoked for 39 years and the thought of stopping made me depressed, pathetic I know. I am having major spinal surgery in a few months so this was my reason to quit. Bone graft wont heal in a smokers body etc..I have good days and down days but on the good days I get a little glimpse into the future feeling healthier and without that horrible sense of forboding that my nicotine addiction has got me trapped yet again. So good luck everyone and to quote a famous cessation expert, just repeat this mantra on waking. No nicotine today. One day at a time, it works for me so far. Wish me luck !!

it can work with anyone, you just have to know what your body can handle, but either way its not worth it
