I was diagnose with a low lying placenta at 18wks of pregnancy. At 20wks I was standing outside when I felt awfully wet, went to the bathroom and discovered I had completely saturated my panties with bright red blood. Drove myself to the ER and was rushed to L&D. Within 1hr of been into L&D the doc told me that my membrane had ructured and that I need to be placed in a high risk room. It saddens me to say that my baby girl didn't make it. I went into premature labor and they proclaim to have given me medi to slow the contractions down, but it seem to have made them come faster. Now I'm trying to cope with losing another child due to premature labor.

I am 16 weeks and I have low lying placenta. Doc just told me light duty when on my feet, not heavy lifting. But you are able to have sex. I just went today and verified it with him, but if you have had bleeding (like myself) he did advise to take it slow and if you have bleeding afterward it will be normal. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

This description of low lying placenta (LLP) is unnecessarily scary. If you are pregnant with LLP please forget what you have read here and find another description. LLP occurs in around 5% of pregnancies and more often than not corrects itself as the pregnancy progresses into the third trimester. This condition has no effect on the baby which continues to grow normally throughout the pregnancy, the blood lost comes from the mother and the amount of blood loss is relatively small. If in any doubt consult your doctor but please, please do not be frightened by this ridiculous site!
