Obesity and Prostate Cancer Are Good Friends

In the previous articles I talked about the relation of some other kinds of cancer with obesity and extra fat in the body. I told you that it is proven that fat women have higher risk of breast cancer. It is also proven that men who are thin and also those who try to lose weight, have lower risk of involvement in aggressive or malignant prostate cancer.
What is the reason and why obese men have higher risk of aggressive prostate cancer?
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in America and as you may know, it becomes
more common in men who are older than 50. It is proven that those men who lose weight and so are thinner, are about 40% less likely to develop the malignant and aggressive prostate cancer than those who are over-weight or do not try to lose weight at all.
There is no doubt that obesity is the cause of many problems and cancer can be one of them and so if people like to leave healthier they should lose weight and if they are aware of weight loss problems they should avoid weight gain.
But what I wanted to talk about was the reason and the relation of the prostate cancer and obesity. In one of my articles, Breast cancer chemotherapy and its effect on ovaries, I let you know about the relation of the breast cancer and the ovaries’ activates and so the amount of ovaries hormones like estrogen in the body. I told you that estrogen causes the tumor cells to grow faster and so it is easier to get rid of the tumor cells if you suppress the ovaries activities.
We have the steroid hormones in the man’s body too. They are necessary for the normal functions of the body but they have a problem. They can cause and intensify the cancer. On the other hand, fat tissues and cells are the best place to keep and store steroids. So those who are over-weight and have a lot of fat in their body, have a lot of carcinogen stored in their body. The fat cells release the steroids to the blood and other tissues. When you have very low amount of fat in your body, you will have lower amount of steroids.
According to the studies, those who lose weight and so have lower amount of fat in their body have lower risk of aggressive prostate cancer. So there is direct relation between fat and malignant cancers.
But who cares what the reason is? Something that is important is just the relation of obesity and malignant prostate cancer. If you are fat and want to avoid cancers, you have to lose weight as soon as possible and if you are not fat, you should be careful not to gain weight. But please note that weight loss should be done very carefully otherwise it can make more serious problems.
