As many as 70 percent of people suffer from mesothelioma cancer because of exposure to asbestos at some point of time in their lives. Exposure to asbestos for even one or two months at a stretch can sometimes result in Mesothelioma Cancer.
The bad news is that Mesothelioma Cancer cannot be detected until late in life. Sometimes symptoms cannot be noticed till 30 or 50 years after being exposed to asbestos! This is bacause of the long latency period of asbestos disease. By the time the disease is diagnosed, the cancer has already started to grow and spread rapidly. Controlling the speed at which it is growing is sometimes next to impossible and the complications are life threatening.
People who are diagnosed with Mesothelioma Cancer are individuals who have worked where they inhaled (breathed) asbestos. Some cases have also been found where people have been exposed to asbestos in a residential environment, unknowingly.
