You love cats but your problem is you are allergic to them. You may have owned your cat for a while before the first symptoms appeared so this could make the decision on whether to keep your cat or whether to try and re-home it rather difficult as you have grown to love your pet.

Your symptoms may be mild or you could suffer with itchy skin, red and dry eyes, nasal congestion, sneezing, or even breathing difficulties. If your heart rules your head and you decide to keep your little pussy cat then there are certain things you can do to try and lesson the effects of the allergy.

The allergy is caused by the dander from the cat; it collects around the house in the bedding, curtains and on the furniture. Your bed is very important as you spend quite a few hours sleeping so keep your cat off the bed and preferably out of the bedroom. A shower before bedtime will remove any dander that may have collected on your person.

If you have a cat allergy it is also advisable to change your bedding each week and vacuum your carpets daily, if possible wash your curtains at least once a month, this cleaning regime will keep the dander down.

If you handle your cat always wash your hands straight afterwards as if you touch your face it could cause you a lot of discomfort. The use of a micro fiber cloth to stroke your cat will eliminate more dander than a bath. If your symptoms persist try keeping your cat to one area in the house, this could prove difficult but worth trying, also a visit to your doctor for allergy medication will help.
