Weight loss supplements have very dangerous side effects. They do help initially to lose weight but its effectiveness fades after some time. Side effects include headaches, dizziness, heart arrhythmia, high blood pressure, and insomnia.

Initially an anti obesity drug called Fen-phen was launched in the market which became a very popular supplement amongst people who wanted to lose weight by eating pills. After some time it was alleged in to heart-valve damage that resulted in deaths. Then Phentermine was introduced for specific circumstances under doctor’s prescription.

Phentermine is not advisable as a weight loss aid because is some cases it has been observed that it becomes psychological addiction for the people who take it for a long period of time. This is one of the major reasons why it is always taken under medical guidance and for a short period of time.

It is a centrally acting stimulant and acts on similar lines of amphetamines. This amphetamines like property is what leads to psychological addition of this drug. It does not mean that Phentermine causes only harms and should be avoided altogether. It has been observed that when taken under proper guidance of a doctor and taking an appropriate diet as suggested by the doctor or dietician it has had positive effects.

There have also been instances when Phentermine purchased over the counter without prescription of doctor or bought online has contained some harmful substances like lead paint.

Phentermine is no magic pill. Weight loss pills do a lot of harm in the long run unless taken under the guidance of a professional and balanced well with exercise regimen and proper diet.
