Your Diet and Cancer

You should also know that if you make changes in your diet you could reduce the risk of certain cancers such as breast cancer, lung cancer, and colorectal cancer. A vegetable and fruit diet with a good supply of biorich compounds will trigger the release of detoxifying enzymes in the body. These enzymes will decrease the effect of carcinogens on DNA. Alternatively, some vegetables like cabbage and cauliflower possess dithiothiones and these restrain those enzymes that trigger carcinogens. Allium is another substance that is anticarcinogenic and is found in garlic and onions. Vitamin D and selenium will protect against the growth of tumors. Vitamin D is found in egg yolk, curd, milk, and fish such as sardines. The mineral selenium can be obtained from fish, liver, seafood, and cereals. It is an antioxidant and protects against tissue damage. Whole grain cereals and green leafy vegetables have folates that may help to reduce the harm to DNA.
It cannot be said enough that a diet should contain carrots, tomatoes, cauliflower, turnips, cabbage, ginger, garlic, onions, apples, grapes, and oranges. From these foods you get lycopenes, alpha-carotenes and beta-carotenes, indoles, phenethyl isothiocyanate, allium, caffeic acid, ellagic acids, and terpenes—all these help in fighting carcinogens and warding off different kinds of cancers.
So you know what kinds of foods help to fight cancer—but what about foods that are bad for your health and may lead to cancer? The consumption of pork, lamb, and beef increase the risk of cancers such as breast, colon, renal, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers. A high-fat diet can lead to colon cancer and it also causes an increase in the levels of hormones, which can promote prostate and breast cancer tumors. An excessive intake of alcohol can lead to mouth and throat cancer as well as liver cancer.
Try and incorporate more fruits and vegetables in your diet. Also include dried fruits like figs, dates, and raisins in your daily intake—you can just snack on them. Drink fruit juice instead of soft drinks. If you eat out regularly, order salads or fruit juice rather than junk food.
Take care of your diet and your diet will take care of you.
