5 Foods that Help to Fight Cancer

There are foods that harm and there are foods that heal. Here we will discuss about foods and spices that help fight cancer in some way.

However there is no one single food item in any from that has all the properties required to bring cancer in control.

Different foods have different cancer fighting properties and it’s thus best to eat a variety and combination of foods after consulting your doctor.

Doctor’s advice is considered necessary because some properties found in particular food, spice or fruit may react adversely with the medication etc.

Doctor knows best so bring it into your doctor’s knowledge if you are following or planning to follow a particular food regime.

(i) Avocados have more potassium than bananas and have high beta-carotene content. They are rich in glutathione, an antioxidant that attacks free radicals in the body by blocking intestinal absorption of certain types of fats. They also help to prevent lung cancer.

(ii) Broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower have a chemical component called indole-3-carbinol that can combat breast cancer by converting a cancer-promoting estrogen into a more protective variety. They also contain phytochemical sulforaphane, a product of glucoraphanin  which it is believed helps to prevent colon and rectal cancer. Cruciferous veggies contain lutein and zeaxanthin, which help reduce prostrate cancer risk.

(iii) Carrots are high on beta-carotene, which may help reduce risk of many types of cancers like, lung, mouth, throat, stomach, intestine, prostate, bladder and breast.

(iv) Chili peppers and jalapenos contain a chemical, capsaicin, which helps to prevent stomach cancer and is likely to neutralize some specific cancer-causing substances.

(v) Figs is an absolute healer in many ways. It apparently has a derivative of benzaldehyde, which has proved to be very affecting in shrinking tumors. Institute of Physical and Chemical Research in Tokyo report this.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture confirms that figs contain vitamins A and C, and calcium, magnesium, potassium etc, which may cut down appetite and improve the efforts one is making to lose weight. Again fig juice is a potent bacteria killer in the studies done on test-tube.

(vi) Fruits like oranges and other citrus fruits, contain monoterpenes, which help reduce cancer risk by washing out carcinogens of the body. Some studies have also been done which report that these fruits may inhibit the proliferation of breast-cancer cells in vitro.

Grapes contain bioflavonoids, which are highly antioxidant and reduce cancer risk. Grapes have resveratrol, the substance that inhibits the enzymes that can stimulate cancer-cell growth. Grapes also have ellagic acid, a compound that restricts enzymes that are required for cancer cells. This seemingly helps to slow the growth of tumors.
