Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia are eating disorders that are a very serious problems and if is not corrected could be the cause of death. Models are prone to this disease due to the strict regime that insists on stick thin models. Young girls are also affected in a bid to look like the glamorous models in the magazines and on the boardwalk.
Fashion designers in Milan and Madrid have seen sense in that they have adopted a height to weight ratio, but the Fashion Designers of America council has only issued guidelines which are a disappointment to some health and nutritional professionals. A lot of the responsibility for the young girls who suffer from anorexia nervosa and bulimia does lie at the fashion industries feet; they are the ones who insist on stick thin models, which to my mind is rather ridiculous as only a small minority of women actually fit the bill.
In this age of glamour where a woman’s figure is important to her in that a bust, waist, and hips are all important, surely the fashion designers should move into the twenty first century and show a woman as she should be and not what they want her to be.
Fashion designers can be deemed as selfish. I am no expert; in fact fashion is not my forte but by having stick thin models I assume they can build their collection with minimum amount of materials, and same sizes means no worries on fittings. They are not concerned with what the model does to retain her size.
As the European design companies have adopted some sort of policy, surely others should follow suit, at least it would be a start in trying to curb the problems of the younger generation trying to emulate the unhealthy way of living of models fighting to stay thin.

A lot of deaths on the ramp are encouraging people to do a rethink on size zero. But the designer’s obsession with creating clothes hangers has a lot to do with the demands of the industry and the overall perception of what’s hot. Perceptions have to change completely.
In this age when women are looking for shapely figure it makes you wonder why designers insist on stick thin.
Imagine if one or two designers suddenly went for models with a nice shapely figure and showed how the clothes would look, and not their peception of it. I am sure their collection would fly out of the window and they would become famous overnight.
Thats my thinking anyway.
